Autocar reports that Land Rover will end Discovery Sport production in December 2026, drawing a line under more than 11 years on sale. France, Germany and Spain can no longer order the SUV from the factory, while the UK remains configurable for now.
JLR said the change fits a managed sunset of manufacturing ahead of December 2026 for certain markets. The removal from order books also comes alongside the EU's updated General Safety Regulation 2 ruleset, which JLR has already applied to its other models.
Discovery Sport and GSR2
The Discovery Sport launched in the UK in February 2015 and became JLR's top seller in 2016, when more than 122,000 examples were sold globally. By 2025, JLR had sold less than a tenth of that total, and the Discovery Sport had become the company's slowest-selling model.
The model's retirement follows a long sales run and a regulatory reset. JLR has updated its other models to comply with GSR2, but the Discovery Sport will not carry on beyond December 2026.
Halewood plant and the Evoque
The Discovery Sport is built alongside the Range Rover Evoque at JLR's Halewood plant in Merseyside. Martin Limpert, Range Rover MD, said the brand had no immediate plans to wind down the Evoque and said Range Rover refreshed it two-and-a-half years ago.
He added that the company had launched market editions for the Evoque and Velar to keep them present in the marketplace. He also said, “We’ve had a big focus on launching Range Rover [Electric] and Range Rover Sport Electric, which was a big pivotal moment that we had to get over the line,” and, “Range Rover GT [pictured above] is the first car built on our new EMA architecture, so obviously there was lots of focus to bring that to life.”
UK orders and next step
JLR has not said when the Discovery Sport will exit the UK home market, even though the SUV is already unavailable to order in France, Germany and Spain. The Evoque could remain in production until the Land Rover Defender Sport arrives next year.
For buyers in the UK, the practical question is whether new orders stay open while the market-specific wind-down continues. The answer now sits with JLR, which has already set the production end date but has not drawn the final line for the UK order books.
