The Buffalo Bills unveiled their Nickel City alternate uniforms, giving the franchise a new look that blends a gray jersey-and-pant combo with a new Charge helmet. The design is meant to connect the team’s branding to Buffalo’s industrial roots while also fitting into the opening era of Highmark Stadium.
The reveal gives the Bills another alternate option in 2026, following the Cold Front Rivalries jerseys that debuted in 2025. This time, the team leaned into gray, a color that had not been a major part of the Bills’ identity before now.
Why gray became the choice
Bills director of design Aaron La Porta said the team was working within the NFL rule that alternate uniforms must use colors already in a club’s current palette. That made gray the natural choice for the Nickel City set, since it was the one brand color the Bills had never really leaned into. La Porta said that created a fun challenge for the design team.
The new helmet is part of the same idea. La Porta described it as a bold new look for the franchise and said it is meant to represent a bold new era in Buffalo Bills football.
A tribute to Buffalo history
The Nickel City uniforms also carry a specific local connection. The Bills tied the design to Buffalo’s industrial past, including steel mills, grain elevators and rail yards. That gives the alternate set a more city-focused identity than a simple color swap.
The result is a uniform that is both practical under NFL rules and intentionally rooted in Western New York history. It also arrives as the team continues building its identity around Highmark Stadium and the broader Buffalo market.
Players already showed them off
Several Bills players were photographed in the new Nickel City Uniforms at the Kaleida Health Performance Center during the final week of May and the first day of June. Khalil Shakir and Greg Rousseau were pictured on May 27, Dion Dawkins on May 28, Maxwell Hairston and Bradley Chubb on May 29, and Dalton Kincaid, Cole Bishop and Ed Oliver on June 1.
Those appearances gave fans a first look before the official unveiling, but the full reveal makes clear the Bills wanted this set to feel distinct. It is not just another alternate jersey. It is a uniform package built to reflect Buffalo’s past, present and next chapter.
