Barclays down complaints rose on Monday as customers reported payment delays and transfer problems, with some money failing to appear in accounts. Lloyds said it was investigating an issue affecting Faster Payments, the rail that moves money quickly between accounts in the UK.
53 per cent of reported Lloyds problems were tied to fund transfers at the time of checking, while 23 per cent involved the app and 14 per cent online banking. For customers, that meant the problem was not limited to one channel: some could not move money, and others could not see whether a transfer had landed.
Downdetector counts Monday complaints
Monday brought an increase in complaints involving Barclays and Lloyds on Downdetector, giving the outage a public footprint beyond individual customer reports. Barclays customers separately said transfers from other UK accounts were delayed, and Barclays UK Help replied to several complaints on X while apologising to customers facing payment problems.
Lloyds also used X to warn customers not to resend a payment if it had already gone through. Dhanraj said: “Hi there, I'm Dhanraj. Sorry for the inconvenience. We're investigating an issue affecting Faster Payments, which may cause delays.”
Money sent, money not visible
Lloyds customer service added a sharper operational warning: “Your payment has been successfully processed; however, there may be a slight delay before it appears in your transactions or leaves your account. Please do not resend the payment, as this could result in the transaction being processed twice. Thank you for your patience.”
That leaves affected customers with a narrow practical step: do not retry a transfer simply because the balance has not updated yet. If the payment has already been made, sending it again risks a duplicate debit while the first payment is still working through the system.
Barclays and Lloyds on X
Barclays responded on X with: “Hi, I hope you are well. I am so sorry to hear you are facing this issue. Please join me in DM where we can chat securely.”
What caused the Faster Payments issue affecting Lloyds and whether Barclays was hit by the same underlying problem are still the unresolved parts of the day. For now, the key signal for customers is simple: delays were affecting both the movement of money and the moment it showed up on screen.
