Apple released iOS 26.6 to iPhone users after more than a month of beta testing. The update starts preparing Spotlight indexing for iOS 27 and adds new safety tools. Full use of that indexing stays limited to iPhone 15 Pro or newer.

Apple’s release notes say, “This update includes bug fixes, security updates, and optimizes the Spotlight index to prepare for iOS 27.”
That puts iPhone owners on the path to the next software step before the bigger AI layer arrives. The practical effect is a background data pass now, not the full Siri AI experience for every device.
Spotlight and Siri AI on iPhone 15 Pro
The update starts to index users’ data for the all-new Siri AI. The full capabilities enabled by that indexing will only be available for users with an iPhone 15 Pro or newer.
Apple Intelligence-capable iPhone models require at least 8 GB of RAM. That makes the new indexing more than a routine database refresh.
Blocked contacts and malicious messages
iOS 26.6 also adds a blocked contacts limit alert. An iPhone will alert the user when they hit the maximum cap for blocked contacts.
The update adds malicious message detection and reporting. Apple says it can help detect and report malicious messages that could harm an iPhone or compromise privacy, and it will suggest forwarding a suspicious message to Apple so it can help safeguard other users.
The unresolved piece is timing for the all-new Siri AI after this indexing prep finishes. Apple has tied the groundwork to iOS 27, but the release does not put a date on when the full rollout reaches users.
