Crystal came to Ocean Casino Resort, Atlantic City, hoping to play the free slot tournament. Instead, she found a property where all gaming and betting had been paused on July 27, 2026 after a small fire and burst pipe caused water damage.
"I was trying to play the free slot tournament here at Ocean.... I'm sad for Ocean, you know. It's a nice place. I hope things get up and running soon," she said while at the resort on Monday. The tournament had been scheduled from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., and the company expects casino operations to resume on Tuesday.
Atlantic City Fire Department at 5:30 a.m.
Atlantic City Fire Department crews responded around 5:30 a.m. on July 27, 2026 after a fire started in a linen room. While crews worked to put out the blaze, a pipe burst and sent water through parts of the building.
The leak damaged the lobby ceiling enough to bring down part of it and also affected some hallways and elevators. It reached the building's gaming support systems as well, which is why slots, table games and sports betting were all suspended for Monday.
Ocean Casino Resort facilities stay open
The resort kept the hotel, restaurants, pools and other amenities open even as gaming stopped. Avila Lounge also relocated to TopGolf for the day, leaving the non-gaming side of the property operating while the casino floor was offline.
Luke, a visitor from Philadelphia, said the free slot tournament had been his target. "They're not doing me a favor. I can tell you right now, I'm hot. I'm going to win," he said, and later added, "They know it, that's why it's flooded. I'm telling you, it's the only thing that matters, trust me. I'm on a heater."

The fire remains under investigation, and the company expects casino operations to resume on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. For guests, the immediate change is simple: the hotel side stayed open, but gaming was shut down for the day and the scheduled slot event did not go forward.
Crystal's reaction and Luke's plans both point to the same practical issue for visitors: the property could still take hotel and dining traffic, but the casino's gaming systems and tournament schedule were knocked out until the next day.
