Scottie Scheffler did not win a major this season, but his Pga Tour Scottie Scheffler Performance still showed why he remained the World No. 1. He finished with three top-10 results across the four majors, including a runner-up at the Masters.
The closest he came was Augusta, where Scheffler finished second at the Masters. He also posted a T14 at the PGA Championship and a T4 at the U.S. Open. That put him in contention deep into the season even though the major title never came.
This was not an isolated pattern, either. Scheffler also went through 2023 without a major victory, so the comparison between the two seasons is a familiar one: the results stayed strong, but the trophy case stayed empty in the biggest events.
The larger picture around the major season was also notable. Rory McIlroy won the Masters, Aaron Rai won the PGA Championship, Wyndham Clark won the U.S. Open and Ryan Fox won The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in England. Four different countries were represented by the four winners, something that has happened only one other time in men's golf.
For Scheffler, the performance breakdown was straightforward. His ball-striking was fantastic, but his putter let him down at key moments. That is often the difference in major championships, where small mistakes quickly change the outcome.
Even so, the numbers point to a player who stayed right at the center of the conversation in every big event. If he is not slowing down, as Scheffler has said, the next major opportunity should bring him back into the mix quickly.
