Manchester United are continuing to monitor left-back options, with Newcastle's Lewis Hall among the players under consideration as the club looks for more competition in that area.
The need is clear. Luke Shaw is described as United's only recognised senior left-back option in the source, while Tyrell Malacia's contract has expired and Harry Amass is still early in his development after seven first-team appearances. That leaves the position short on proven depth, which is why the club's search has broadened.
Why Hall is on the radar
Hall has the profile of a player who fits a modern full-back role. He has already built up 215 appearances and produced 26 goal contributions, showing he can contribute at both ends of the pitch. For a United side that needs more reliability and competition on the left, that kind of track record is part of the appeal.
United have also continued to be linked with Antonee Robinson, and Michael Carrick is understood to be monitoring Robinson closely as part of the same effort to strengthen the position. Robinson's age could be a complication, though, with reporting that he falls outside United's preferred target profile.
Mbeumo's view of Robinson adds context
The interest in Robinson is not hard to understand either. Last year, Bryan Mbeumo appeared on the Obi One podcast and said Robinson had developed into a much more complete defender than the one he first faced at Wigan. Mbeumo said Robinson was once quick and athletic but less polished on the ball, before improving to the point where he can now attack, defend, and play with his feet.
That kind of evolution is exactly what United are likely looking for. Whether the answer is Hall, Robinson, or another target, the message is the same: the club wants another dependable left-back option before the burden falls too heavily on Shaw and a still-raw Amass.
