Major Rugby issued a nationwide thyroid medication recall for 12 packages of levothyroxine sodium tablets after the prescription pills were reported to be subpotent. The medicine was distributed nationwide beginning in January 2025, and consumers who have it should return it to the point of purchase.

The recalled products were sold under the Major and Cardinal brand names and came in 10 blister packs of 25 mcg, 50 mcg, 75 mcg, 88 mcg, 112 mcg, 125 mcg and 150 mcg tablets. Levothyroxine sodium tablets require a prescription and are used to treat hypothyroidism, enlarged thyroid glands and a type of thyroid cancer.

, even though the tablets were described as subpotent
. In this recall, subpotent means the tablets did not deliver the labeled amount of medicine, which can matter for a drug that is prescribed to keep thyroid hormone levels in range.
Point of purchase
Major Rugby said in a letter sent to retailers earlier this month that the recalled products should be returned. If a customer finds the tablets in a medicine cabinet, the company said to consult a doctor or physician and then return the medicine to the point of purchase.
