Anthony Smith arrest in Nebraska on Monday evening left the former UFC light heavyweight title challenger in the Sarpy County Jail facing three felony charges. He was booked at 8:44 p.m. and is scheduled for a bond hearing Wednesday morning at 8:00 a.m. at the Sarpy County Correctional Center.
Smith faces three felony charges
Smith faces charges of terroristic threats, false imprisonment in the first degree, and attempted first-degree domestic assault. An earlier version of the case described one count as domestic violence causing serious bodily injury and listed it as a Class 2A felony, but that was later amended after notice from the Chief Deputy Sarpy County Attorney on the specifics of his charges.
In Nebraska, domestic violence causing serious bodily injury is a Class 2 felony, which carries a maximum of 50 years’ imprisonment. The terroristic threats and false imprisonment in the first degree counts are Class 3A felonies, with a maximum of 3 years’ imprisonment, 18 months’ post-release supervision and a fine of up to $10,000.

The arrest adds a new legal problem for a fighter who retired last year at UFC Kansas City after losing by knockout to Zhang Mingyang. Smith ended that retirement earlier this year to compete at Jorge Masvidal’s Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA event in April, where he submitted Chase Sherman.
Damon Martin of MMA Fighting reported Smith’s arrest, and court records matched the booking time and custody status. Smith also frequently serves as an analyst for UFC broadcasts, which puts the case in view well beyond the cage.
