He ran a game race in the Queen Anne and has a front-running style that could be well suited to Goodwood. That does not mean Opera Ballo is automatically the right answer. Bow Echo remains the horse with the cleaner profile, the stronger momentum and the unbeaten record that makes everyone else prove they are better. But this is not a two-horse parade. Elsewhere on the card, Doyle also highlighted unbeaten Adonius as a horse she would love to see win a big race for Rebecca Menzies. He has been kept fresh since extending his unbeaten record in the Lily Agnes at Chester, and the word speed has been attached to him for good reason. That makes him one to keep an eye on, even if the Sussex Stakes spotlight is firmly fixed elsewhere.
But make no mistake: this is Bow Echo’s race to lose. He brings the strongest current case, the biggest momentum and the kind of unbeaten profile that forces every rival to look a little harder. Opera Ballo may be the most obvious spoiler, yet the burden of proof still sits squarely on the opposition.
