Brad Binder’s next move is becoming one of the more intriguing crossovers in modern motorcycle racing. It would also reopen an old KTM connection, with Miguel Oliveira already in place at BMW and the possibility of a reunion suddenly on the table.
The timing matters because Binder has been part of KTM’s grand prix project since 2020, and he shared the factory box with Oliveira in 2021 and 2022. That history gives the possible switch a familiar shape. This would not just be a rider changing series; it would be a former teammate moving into a different championship at the same moment the grid is being reshuffled around him. He missed the next two rounds in Czechia and Aragon, returned at Misano and retired from Race 2, then completed a full weekend at Donington without managing to finish in the top-10. Those results do not define Oliveira’s WorldSBK career, but they do show why BMW would welcome another proven grand prix name if Binder does indeed arrive in 2027. The appeal is obvious: a rider with MotoGP pace, a clear identity, and an existing relationship with Oliveira.
There is still a counterpoint worth keeping in mind. A reported move is not the same as a completed one, and Binder’s value at KTM has been built over two seasons of steady factory duty since 2020. But the logic of the story is hard to miss. Red Bull KTM Tech3 reportedly does not want Binder, KTM has already drafted around him for 2027, and BMW could offer him both a fresh start and a reunion with a familiar teammate.
