Paul Nsio has joined St Mirren on a season-long loan from Rangers, giving the Premiership side another midfield option as the 20-year-old continues his development.
The move comes after Nsio spent last season on loan at Raith Rovers, where he made 31 appearances and helped the club win the Challenge Cup in April. That spell gave him valuable first-team experience, and St Mirren are now banking on him bringing that same energy to Paisley.
What St Mirren are getting
St Mirren football director Craig McLeish said Nsio offers the sort of profile the club does not currently have in its academy. He pointed to the midfielder's calibre, physical attributes and athleticism, while also noting that Nsio had a strong pre-season with Rangers.
McLeish said Nsio even began to feature at right-back during pre-season, which underlines the versatility St Mirren believe he can provide. The club views him as a player who can operate as a six or higher up as an eight, giving the manager different ways to use him depending on the match and the opponent.
That flexibility was a key part of the appeal. McLeish said Nsio adds physicality to the group and fits the kind of loan market opportunity St Mirren wanted to explore, especially when a club is looking for a player type not available internally.
A chance to keep progressing
For Nsio, the move offers another step in what has already been a useful run of senior football. At Raith Rovers, he got regular minutes and was part of a team that lifted the Challenge Cup, which should help him settle quickly into the demands of another loan spell.
Nsio described the move as a good test and said he wanted to compete at the highest level. That kind of challenge makes sense for a young midfielder still building his senior career, especially one who has already shown he can contribute in different roles.
