He had done enough to show he could settle quickly, and the club had seen enough to commit.
That matters because Gateshead are not simply adding another body to the squad. Ferguson said he can play across the back line, whether on the left side of a three, in the middle, or on the right, and that flexibility gives a coach options when injuries, suspensions or tactical tweaks change the picture. He also said the gaffer saw him as a more physical presence, something that should help the team, and that the conversations about where he would play and how he would fit were a big reason for signing so quickly.
