michael b. jordan has put the first public image of his remake of The Thomas Crown Affair in play. Amazon MGM Studios released the teaser trailer on Wednesday, and the film is now set for theaters in March 2027.
The minute-and-a-half teaser leans on action scenes, glamour shots of Jordan’s upper body, and Adria Arjona as the love interest. That gives the remake an immediate sell: a familiar property, a new lead in the title role, and a theatrical date that keeps the project positioned as a real release rather than a placeholder.
Jordan’s Tuesday poster
On Tuesday, Jordan posted the poster for the upcoming remake, then doubled down by directing the film and starring as Thomas Crown. The sequence matters because it turned the project from a poster reveal into a trailer rollout in less than 24 hours, giving viewers a clearer sense of how the film wants to present itself before March 2027. For a remake built on recognition, that is the first practical signal of tone.
The teaser also includes a beautiful museum interior that looks like the Great Hall steps of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, plus a prized art piece that seems to reference Vincent van Gogh’s sunflower paintings. Those visual cues place the film inside the theft-and-display logic that has always powered the story, while the heist-adjacent behavior keeps the trailer pointed at momentum rather than explanation. Adria Arjona faces Michael B. Jordan in that setup, which is the cleanest way the teaser advertises the movie’s romantic and criminal stakes.
Rene Russo’s fashion shadow
The bigger complication is fashion, or at least the lack of it so far. The 1999 version made style part of the business case: Pierce Brosnan’s Crown stole a Claude Monet painting from The Met, and Rene Russo wore a slinky, semi-sheer black dress by Randolph Duke’s revival of Halston. Other clothing came mostly from Michael Kors’s debut collection for Celine, and the film helped cement Celine as a destination for glamorous, practical fashion.
That legacy sets a high bar for this remake, because the teaser shows action and gloss but does not yet show whether Jordan’s version will treat wardrobe as a narrative tool the way the 1999 film did. Jordan and the studio have already chosen to make the property visible early; the unanswered part is whether the remake will match that older film’s fashion precision or treat it as background texture. For now, the teaser sells the setup, not the legacy.
From 1968 to March 2027
The Thomas Crown Affair is now the fourth version of the story. The original arrived in 1968 with Steve McQueen as Thomas Crown and Faye Dunaway as the investigator sent after him, and a 1987 version featured Michelle Yeoh as a female version of Crown before the 1999 film paired Brosnan with Rene Russo.
March 2027 is far enough away that this teaser functions as positioning, not pay-off. Jordan has made the first move, Amazon MGM Studios has set the release lane, and the next thing viewers are really waiting on is whether the remake can turn a familiar title into a distinct visual identity without losing the fashion-and-heist charge that made the 1999 version stick.
