Howard Charles leads Fightland as Maduka “Duke” Kilroy, a British prizefighter whose life turns on revenge after eight years in prison. The Starz drama puts him back into London’s boxing and drug worlds, where a gangster’s setup leaves him chasing payback instead of a career.
Jackson’s Power lane
Power arrived in 2014 alongside Black Sails, ran for six seasons, and generated three spin-offs, with two more on the way. Fightland follows that model under Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, who is producing again and rapping over the theme song. The series is being handled as another entry in a crime-drama run that has already proven it can keep spinning out new pieces of the same business.
Kingsley Marshall in London
Nicholas Pinnock plays Kingsley Marshall, the gangster who promotes Duke before the story snaps shut around betrayal. An assault kills Duke’s brother, Duke beats one of the assailants to death, and eight years in a Nevada prison follow. When the story starts, Kingsley Marshall is missing, while Zeke and Cebella — played by Charles Babalola and Anita-Joy Uwajeh — are left around the family business.
Duke’s return route
A cartel boss tells Duke that Kingsley Marshall set him up, then offers him a path back to London if he can take down the Marshalls from inside. Duke accepts because he has revenge to live for, which gives Fightland a cleaner engine than a simple prison-return drama: the job is infiltration, and the payoff is personal. Howard Charles plays Duke with his rage kept at a low simmer, which keeps the performance functional even when the material leans on familiar crime-soap pieces.
“Fightland feels like an attempt to get another Power off the ground,” and that is the right read for a series built to last as long as everyone is game to play ball. The complication is that the cast is only serviceable and Duke lacks charisma, so the show has the shape of a franchise play without the force that usually sells one. Whether Fightland can grow into a lasting franchise like Power is the question it leaves behind.
