Dermot Mulroney Chicago Fire Exit Ends Early in Season 15

Dermot Mulroney Chicago Fire exit will come early in Season 15, ending his run as Chief Dom Pascal after he returned in the Season 14 finale. The move comes ahead of the October 7 premiere at 9 p.m. ET, and it follows a season that already left Pascal’s future at Firehouse 51 in motion.

Mulroney and Season 15

Mulroney joined Chicago Fire in the show’s 13th season as a series regular, stepping into Firehouse 51 after Eamonn Walker’s Wallace Boden had covered the first 12 seasons. He went on hiatus for the latter half of Season 14, then came back in the Season 14 finale to discuss his professional options with Severide.

That finale did not close the door cleanly. Severide and Mulroney’s character weighed whether Pascal should become Chief of Firehouse 51 or Chief of Fire Investigation, and an emergency call cut off Severide’s announcement before the discussion could settle the issue. The team was sent to a major warehouse fire, and Pascal was outside trying to save colleagues as the roof began to collapse.

Victor Teran takes over

Season 15 arrives with a new showrunner in Victor Teran after Andrea Newman handled the past three seasons and spent the full 14-season run on the NBC drama. Against that backdrop, Mulroney’s early exit is not just another cast adjustment; it lands at the start of a reset year for the series.

Joe Miñoso will also conclude his storyline early in Season 15, while Taylor Kinney and Miranda Rae Mayo have signed new deals to continue on the show. Hanako Greensmith, Jocelyn Hudon, and Brandon Larracuente are among the names expected back, and Da’Vinchi will join in the fall as Marcus Burke, a firefighter candidate at Firehouse 51. The cast list points to a season that is being rebuilt while still carrying over unresolved story lines.

Pascal after the finale

Mulroney’s exit matters because the show already used the Season 14 finale to place Pascal in a live professional dilemma, then interrupted it with the warehouse fire. Early in Season 15, Chicago Fire will have to answer that setup quickly, or the character will leave with the audience still holding the same question the finale raised: what becomes of Pascal’s role at Firehouse 51?
