British Athletics has selected 98 athletes to represent Novuna Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham from 10-16 August.
The home championships will be staged at Alexander Stadium, marking the event's debut on British soil. For GB & NI, it is a major team announcement and a chance to show the strength of a squad that includes reigning and former European champions, athletes returning from injury and several senior international debutants.

The headline names include Matthew Hudson-Smith, who will contest the 400m, while the women’s middle-distance group features Keely Hodgkinson and Laura Muir. Other established British athletes selected for the championships include Dina Asher-Smith, Amy Hunt, Daryll Neita, Georgia Hunter Bell, Katarina Johnson-Thompson, Jade O’Dowda, Jake Wightman and Charlie Dobson.
There is also depth across the sprint and field groups with Arlo Ludwick, Romell Glave, Jeremiah Azu, Zharnel Hughes, Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake, Ebuka Nwokeji, Amber Anning, Yemi Mary John, Charlotte Henrich, Megan Keith, Scott Lincoln, Morgan Lake and Jazmin Sawyers among those named.
Recent form and championship context
The selection reflects a team with recent European pedigree. Laura Muir won European 1500m gold in 2022, Daryll Neita won silver in the 200m at the 2022 European Championships, Zharnel Hughes won European gold in the 200m, Jake Heyward won silver, and Jazmin Sawyers took bronze in Munich. More recently, Charlie Dobson won European silver in 2024, Georgia Hunter Bell won European silver in the 1500m in Rome, Jade O’Dowda finished seventh, and Megan Keith won European bronze.
There is also strong current-season form in the mix. Romell Glave won the British 100m title earlier this summer, Jeremiah Azu is the World Indoor champion, Amber Anning is the World Indoor champion, and Scott Lincoln finished fourth at the World Indoor Championships earlier this season. Jake Heyward also arrived in the squad after recording the third-fastest British mile time of all time and a new Welsh record at the London Diamond League.
