Pamela Gwinnett, dubbed Black Widow, arrived at Manchester Airport after her arrest in Tenerife and was driven away into custody. The return follows her flight from the UK while on bail and brings her back into the case over nearly £300,000 taken from Joan Green.
Gwinnett had been handed a six-year prison sentence in her absence in October 2025 after failing to turn up at court. She had fled the country while awaiting trial for theft and fraud by abuse of position, and later faced a Proceeds of Crime Act hearing that ordered her to repay £300,000.
Manchester Airport arrival
At Manchester Airport, Gwinnett was escorted from Terminal 3 Arrivals lounge to a police van by two armed National Crime Agency officers. She was silent when asked whether she wished to apologise to her victim's family. That handover marks the point at which the case moved from an overseas arrest back into UK custody.
Her return came after the National Crime Agency and Spanish Police secured her extradition and arrest earlier this month. The route back matters because it ends the period in which she had been out of the country after failing to face court in person.
Joan Green and the fraud
Gwinnett had positioned herself as the carer of retired accountant Joan Green and swindled her life savings during the Covid pandemic. She manipulated Green into granting her Lasting Power of Attorney, then fabricated accusations against her family and isolated her by altering the locks and the landline phone number at her gated bungalow.
Carers who visited the property saw Gwinnett barking at the elderly woman and neglecting her basic care needs. Green, who was 89, was kept like a captive animal at her residence in Chorley, Lancashire, and died in 2022 after being milked like a cash cow by Gwinnett.
Tenerife flight
Gwinnett asked a judge to alter her bail conditions so she could travel to Tenerife to scatter her brother's ashes, but the request was denied. Five days later, she flew to Tenerife anyway, creating the breach that left her outside the UK when court proceedings continued.
