The Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana de la Ciudad de México deployed 2,365 security elements around the Estadio Azteca before the Cruz Azul vs Atlante match, which kicked off at 21:00 hours as the star game of date 3 in the Torneo Apertura 2026 of Liga MX.
The operation was built to cover the full matchday environment at the Coloso de Santa Úrsula, with attention on the stadium perimeter, entrances, exits, concourses and field level. The plan also included traffic control and anti-ticket-resale monitoring, along with aerial surveillance.
What the security plan included
According to the SSC CDMX, the deployment featured 1,605 police officers and 760 auxiliary police, for a total of 2,365 personnel. The operation also used 130 vehicles, one bus, 14 motorcycles, four tow trucks, one ambulance and 16 units from different support areas.
Among the groups involved were the Dirección General de Servicios Aéreos Cóndores, Escuadrón de Rescate y Urgencias Médicas, Subsecretaría de Inteligencia e Investigación Policial, Unidad Águila and Subsecretaría de Control de Tránsito. Together, they were assigned to help manage access, movement and safety before, during and after the match.
Why the matchup drew so much attention
The security presence matched the profile of the game itself. Cruz Azul entered unbeaten and coming off wins over Atlético de San Luis by 3-2 and Club Puebla by 2-0.
