Tyler Glasnow is set to take the next step in his return to the Los Angeles Dodgers rotation, with a rehab stint scheduled to begin Tuesday after he completed two live batting practice sessions.
The update matters because Glasnow is one of two All-Star-caliber Dodgers starters working back from the injured list, alongside Blake Snell. For a team that has spent much of the season balancing immediate results with long-term health, getting Glasnow back on a mound in game action is a meaningful milestone.
George Bissell reported that Glasnow will make his first rehab start after facing hitters in a pair of live batting practice sessions. The 32-year-old has been out with a lingering back issue since early May, and he will need several outings to build up his pitch count and stamina before rejoining Los Angeles’ rotation, most likely in late August.
What this means for the Dodgers
Glasnow’s return timeline gives the Dodgers a clearer path toward adding another high-end arm for the stretch run and, potentially, October. The timing is notable as the club moves through a Red Sox series in Los Angeles and approaches the MLB trade deadline, with rotation depth always a key consideration.
Before the injury, Glasnow had been productive in limited work, posting a 2.72 ERA with 49 strikeouts in seven starts across 39.2 innings pitched. That kind of production is part of why the Dodgers have been patient with his ramp-up.
Since joining the Dodgers on a four-year, $115 million deal that runs through the 2028 season, Glasnow has been one of the more important pieces in their pitching plans. Over 11 seasons, he has logged more than 793 innings pitched with a 3.69 ERA and 1001 strikeouts. His most recent full-season sample with Los Angeles included 47 starts, 264 innings pitched, a 3.27 ERA, 323 strikeouts and a WHIP of less than 1.000.
For now, the important detail is simple: Tuesday begins the rehab assignment, and that starts the final stage of Glasnow’s build-up. The Dodgers do not need him rushing back. They need him ready when it matters most.
