Portland Police are investigating a deadly motorcycle crash on Interstate 84 eastbound in northeast Portland after officers responded Friday night to the off ramp to NE 122nd Avenue at around 9:22 p.m. The rider was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene.
During the investigation, the offramp to NE 122nd Avenue from I-84 eastbound and the onramp to eastbound I-84 from NE 122nd Avenue were closed. Anyone with information about the crash has been asked to e-mail [email protected] and reference case number 26-222937.
Portland Police Bureau response
Portland Police said officers went to the crash after a report of a motorcycle wreck at the interchange. The response centered on the off ramp area, where the rider was located and declared dead at the scene.
The crash closed both directions of movement tied to that interchange: the eastbound I-84 exit to NE 122nd Avenue and the NE 122nd Avenue access back onto eastbound I-84. For drivers, that meant the usual ramp pair could not be used while the scene stayed active.
NE 122nd Avenue closure
The scene involved a specific highway connection in northeast Portland, not a broad stretch of roadway. That limits the disruption to the interchange itself, but it also means anyone trying to enter or leave I-84 eastbound through NE 122nd Avenue had to find another route during the investigation.
Police have not said what caused the crash. They also have not said whether another vehicle was involved, which leaves the investigation focused on the motorcycle, the ramp area, and the scene evidence officers collected there.
26-222937 and crimetips
Portland Police said anyone with information should send it to [email protected] and include case number 26-222937. That gives investigators a direct way to connect tips to this crash without requiring a caller to identify the report by location alone.
The unanswered question is what happened in the final moments before the crash on the I-84 eastbound off ramp. Until that is established, the key facts for nearby drivers are the fatal outcome, the closed ramps, and the case number tied to the investigation.
