Lorena Wiebes kept the yellow jersey at the Tour de France Femmes on Monday by winning stage 2 from Aigle to Geneva, bursting clear in the final 250m to make it back-to-back stage victories to start the race.
The 27-year-old Team SD Worx-Protime rider also extended her Tour de France Femmes stage total to seven, a record since the race returned in 2022. Wiebes opened the race by winning stage 1, and she followed that up with another sprint finish to stay in control of the general classification after 147.9 kilometers in Switzerland.
Wiebes said her team’s work made the result possible. “Our team worked really hard for it and our girls were chasing full, full gas in the final to bring back Brianne Markus so then it’s even more beautiful to finish it off in the yellow,” she said.
That kind of finish is exactly what Wiebes does best. She described sprinting as a tense but exciting effort, noting, “Every sprint is quite exciting because if you make one mistake then the sprint is over and you cannot finish it off for the team. So, for me, its exciting every time, and a bit nervous.”
Another strong statement from the opening days
The result also underlined how quickly Wiebes has built a major Tour de France Femmes record. Along with her seven stage wins, she has 18 wins on the road this year and two on gravel, while also holding the green jersey last year. That combination of power and consistency has made her one of the race’s most reliable sprinters.
There is also added context to the setting in Switzerland. This was only the second Tour de France Femmes Grand Depart to take place beyond French borders, following the 2024 start in Rotterdam. Stage 2 gave the race another cross-border backdrop, with Aigle to Geneva providing a flat-fast route that suited the sprinters.
For Wiebes, the bigger picture is simple: she has already won twice, she still has yellow, and she has added another milestone to her Tour de France Femmes record. The next stages will decide whether anyone can force her out of that position, but through two days, she has done everything required to stay in front.
