Rangers have reached a full agreement with Hannover to sign Daisuke Yokota, and the winger is due to travel on Tuesday for a medical. The move pushes Rangers closer to adding another wide option after their 1-1 draw with Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership opener.
The deal is understood to be worth between €3m and €3.5m, with add-ons and a sell-on clause included. Yokota, 26, is expected to go through the usual checks before a long-term Rangers deal is signed.
Hannover and Rangers
Hannover took Yokota on loan from Gent last season, and he featured regularly in the 2. Bundesliga before the move was made permanent after the loan spell. Rangers have moved quickly from interest to agreement, which leaves the medical as the final practical hurdle before the transfer can be completed.
Yokota’s route to this point has been unusually varied. He began his career at Kawasaki Frontale, later moved to Germany for FSV Frankfurt’s youth set-up, and had stints in Latvia, Poland and Belgium before a successful loan spell at Kaiserslautern.
Derek McInnes and wide options
The timing matters because Rangers are still shaping their wide options after the opening-day draw, and the club has also been linked with Vaclav Cerny and Mikey Moore. Derek McInnes is trying to strengthen that area, but Yokota now looks to be the one moving furthest along the line.
That leaves Rangers with a straightforward next step: get Yokota through the medical, then complete the paperwork that turns agreement into a signed transfer. The fee structure, with add-ons and a sell-on clause, suggests Rangers and Hannover have settled on a deal designed to work beyond the initial payment.
