Thomas Ramos has made a major career call by agreeing to join Racing from the summer of 2027, ending a long association with Stade Toulousain after more than a decade at the club. The 31-year-old French international will arrive on a three-year contract, with the move confirmed this Tuesday afternoon.
It is a significant transfer in Top 14 terms, not only because of Ramos' status, but because of the timing. His deal at Stade Toulousain was due to run until 30 June 2027, and the switch comes after a period in which the club was also fined 2.88 million euros in early July for new salary-cap breaches.

Ramos explained that the decision was not easy, describing it as a particularly difficult one to make. He said Stade Toulousain remains his club, the one that saw him grow and enjoy moments he will never forget, but added that he wanted a new sporting challenge, a different environment and continued development.
That balance between loyalty and ambition helps explain the move. Ramos has spent almost his entire senior career in Toulouse, having begun there in 2014 and spent only one season away on loan at Colomiers in 2016-2017. For a player so closely tied to one shirt, leaving is a notable step.

The scale of what Ramos has achieved in Toulouse underlines why this is such a big departure. He leaves with six Boucliers de Brennus and two titles of champions d'Europe, collected across 2019, 2021, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026.
Those honours make him one of the defining figures of Stade Toulousain's modern era. Didier Lacroix acknowledged as much, saying that seeing a player of this dimension leave is never insignificant, while stressing that it is part of club life and high-level sport.
What it means for Racing and France
For Racing, the deal is a major statement. Bringing in a 31-year-old with 52 caps and proven championship experience gives the club a player who arrives with pedigree and leadership qualities as well as technical quality.
For the French international, the timing also matters. The World Cup in Australia is scheduled for autumn 2027, so the move is set to come before that tournament rather than during it. On the evidence available, the transfer gives him a new domestic challenge while keeping the biggest international stage on the horizon.
