Bijan Robinson’s three-year extension with the Atlanta Falcons has quickly become the contract story with the widest ripple effect, and the expectation is that it could help push Jahmyr Gibbs’ situation along at the Detroit Lions. There have been no reports of any real sticking point, but there have also been no tangible signs of progress, either.
That leaves Gibbs’ hold-in in a familiar place. It is now officially in Week 2 as the Lions prepared for their seventh training camp practice, and while the mood around the deal has not turned negative, it has also not moved into the done-and-dusted stage.
What the Robinson deal changed
The Robinson extension matters because it resets the conversation around what running backs can command. When one deal lands, the market tends to shift around it, and that is why the Robinson news is being watched so closely by the Lions and Jahmyr Gibbs.

Brad Holmes offered a similar message on Wednesday, telling SiriusXM that the Lions were “having dialogue” with Gibbs. He also said “that’s the hope,” which is the key line here: there is no public alarm, just an expectation that progress will come.
That is what makes the Robinson extension so relevant. If the market has genuinely been reset, then the next step is whether Detroit can use that clarity to move toward a deal of its own. The Lions have not said anything to suggest the talks have broken down, and the current read is that the process is still alive.
Why the next few days matter
For now, Gibbs remains in hold-in mode while the Lions continue through camp. The 2/10 feeling around the deal has not been there — more a 4-6 range than anything close to panic — but the longer it goes on, the more attention it will draw.
