SJM Concerts has been granted a premises licence for Knebworth House just days before the 30th anniversary of oasis concerts there. North Hertfordshire Council’s decision gives the promoter authority over a site tied to recurring speculation about a return.
125,000 People at Knebworth
The licence took effect on Saturday and runs indefinitely. It allows events of up to 125,000 people, with live music and dance performances permitted until 03:00. That is a sizeable approval for Knebworth in Hertfordshire, especially because the venue’s name still carries the weight of Oasis’s August 1996 shows.
Henry Lytton Cobbold said in 2024 that he wanted the band to return to Knebworth House for a 30th anniversary show. SJM Concerts, which has worked on shows with Take That and The Prodigy, also has experience outside music through Peter Kay, so the company already knows how to handle large, varied live events at scale.
Oasis Rumours Return
The licence lands after a year of noisy speculation. In 2025, Baroness Sharon Taylor of Stevenage told the House of Lords the band would play five nights there, then later told the she had been speaking hypothetically. Last month, The Sun reported that Oasis would play six nights at the venue over a three-week period in September 2027, but no event plan has been announced by SJM Concerts or Knebworth House.
In 2024, Oasis wrote on X: “Contrary to reports in some UK tabloid media today, Oasis will not be playing Knebworth Park in the future.” Tickets for Oasis’s comeback tour went on sale in 2024, sold out immediately, and rose by more than £200 because of dynamic pricing, which explains why any Knebworth move would draw such fast attention from buyers. More than 4% of the UK population applied for tickets to see Oasis perform at the Hertfordshire venue on 10 and 11 August 1996, a scale that still frames the site’s commercial pull.
September and the open booking
A documentary following the band’s 2025 reunion tour is due in September and will include the first interviews together since before the split in 2009. For now, the licence is the hard fact: SJM Concerts can stage major events at Knebworth House, but the booking list has not been set out. The first real test is whether the promoter uses that approval for an Oasis return or for something entirely different.
