A car chase that began in Newton-le-Willows at about 1.10am on Thursday, August 6, ended with three men arrested after a Seat Leon crashed in Haydock. The vehicle reached speeds of up to 90mph before the three occupants were detained at the scene.
Police said the Seat Leon failed to stop on Common Road and then moved through residential streets before heading towards the M6. Along the way, it ran red lights, drove on the wrong side of the carriageway on the East Lancashire Road and took a roundabout on Stanley Bank Way in the wrong direction.

The pursuit then tightened on Stanley Bank Way in the, where the Seat Leon collided with a police vehicle and was left immobile. Despite the collision, The Seat Leon continued along Stanley Bank Way before crashing into two parked cars on Penny Lane in Haydock, a sequence that turned the end of the chase into a series of separate impacts rather than a single stop.
The parked vehicles were a Mercedes-Benz and an Audi A5. The final crash brought the car to a halt, and the three men inside were detained at the scene.
Warrington arrests
A 42-year-old man from Warrington was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving and drug driving. A 29-year-old man from Warrington was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking and vehicle damage, while a 26-year-old man from Warrington was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving and possession of a Class A drug, cocaine.
All three remained in custody as police investigations continued. The arrests leave the focus on why the Seat Leon did not stop when officers first tried to pull it over on Common Road in Newton-le-Willows.
