Lygo has previously said, “The new commissioning pattern is viewer-led.” He also said, “In a world where there is so much competition for viewers' time and attention, and viewing habits continue to change, we believe this is the right amount of episodes that fans can fit into their viewing schedule to keep up to date with the shows.”
Coronation Street and Emmerdale
Coronation Street also did not air on Friday 7 August, so the change did not affect just one soap. The two shows were due to return on Sunday 9 August, with Emmerdale at 7.00pm and Coronation Street at 7:30pm.
Emmerdale normally airs at 8pm in ITV’s soap power hour, so the one-night switch moved the evening’s routine rather than ending it. The practical result for viewers was simple: no Friday episode, no ITVX early release, and a return packed into Sunday’s schedule.
EFL Cup Live on Friday
