In other words, he has had a proper break — but he has also shown enough urgency to get back ahead of schedule.

This is not some meaningless box-ticking exercise. Newcastle United are still in the middle of their pre-season build-up in Spain, and Burn’s early return gives them another senior defender back in the mix. That is useful in a summer where several defenders are competing for places in the centre of defence, and where every training session matters before the real tests arrive.
Burn is due to join the group again next week when they return from Spain, but his presence now gives Newcastle a little extra stability behind the scenes. That is the sort of detail managers love and fans often overlook until the first proper team sheet appears.
There is also the small matter of timing.
