Red Arrows will miss three summer events after poor weather in Canada delayed their return to the UK, pushing the team’s route back by at least a week. Wing Cdr Sasha Nash said the team was very sorry it cannot take part and that safety will decide when it can get home.
Three events are affected: Airbourne: Eastbourne International Airshow, the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo and Lyme Regis Lifeboat Week. The team had been due back at RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire last week after its US tour, but the return now runs into next week.

“We are very sorry the Red Arrows cannot participate at these events and we are grateful to organisers and communities for their understanding,” Nash said. She added: “Every effort is being made to ensure the Red Arrows can recommence the busy display season as soon as possible.” Those are the only lines that matter to organisers trying to fill a fast-moving summer line-up.
The route home is not a simple ferry back from Canada. The team’s journey depends on several refuelling stops and workable weather, which is why a forecast in north-eastern regions of Canada can spill straight into the display calendar in Eastbourne, Edinburgh and Lyme Regis. A delay at the start of the trip now removes the team from three separate bookings at once.

Other RAF aircraft remain on the Eastbourne line-up, including the Typhoon display team and The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. At Lyme Regis, the same flight is also carrying out flypasts on August 21 and 22, so the programme does not lose every airborne element. The Red Arrows absence still changes the draw of each event, because they are the headline act that usually tightens the schedule around them.
“However, safety is the only factor that will determine the timing of the team's return from Canada,” Nash said.
