Legia Warszawa's perfect start to the PKO Ekstraklasa season came to an end in Kielce, where they were held to a 1:1 draw by Korona after Łukasz Zjawiński's first-half goal was cancelled out by Mariusz Stępiński.
It was a result that felt significant for both sides. Legia had arrived with a full set of points from their opening two matches, while Korona had taken just one point from their first game. This draw gave Korona their first point of the campaign and showed they were able to compete even without Tamar Svetlin, who was absent while undergoing medical tests at AS Saint-Etienne.
Legia had control, but Korona stayed alive
The game opened with a warning for Legia in the 13th minute when Kamil Jakubczyk tried his luck from distance and the goalkeeper saved. But Legia struck first in the 28th minute through Zjawiński, who gave them the lead and looked to have put the visitors in charge of the evening.
That should have set the tone for Legia, but Korona kept finding moments to stay in the contest. In the 43rd minute, Morgan Fassbender saw a shot hit the crossbar after replays showed a touch of Robert Deziel's hand, and the home side kept pushing into the second half.
Korona's response changed the picture
Legia still had chances to see the match out. In the 69th minute, Otto Hindrich produced a save to deny Wiktor Długosz's free-kick effort, but Korona were not done.
Just a minute later, Mariusz Stępiński found the equaliser in the 70th minute, and that was enough to secure a point for Korona and bring Legia back down to earth after their strong opening run.
The final score was 1:1, a draw that ends Legia Warszawa's perfect start while giving Korona Kielce a much-needed lift in the 3rd round of the PKO Ekstraklasa.
