The Last House Cast got a West Hollywood billboard stunt that turned heads on Sunset Boulevard on Friday: a man had been living inside the installation since Thursday. The setup was built to sell Netflix’s film The Last House, and it was already pulling people off the street before the weekend.

The billboard sits about 30 feet above the ground and is staged like a furnished, air-conditioned living room. Inside, the man sometimes waved with a coffee mug, sometimes used binoculars to look outside, and sometimes stood in blue pajama pants and a bathrobe while carrying a dry-erase whiteboard to people below.

One message on that board read, “I’m stuck,” which is a better bit of promotion than most trailers manage. The room also appeared to include a bookshelf, plants, a coffee table, an armchair, a desk chair and paintings on the walls, with thick red curtains across the window and the phrase “How long can you survive?” painted on the blue shutters.

Jon Bruno on the Street Below

Jon Bruno, who lives a couple of blocks away and has lived in L.A. for 30 years, said the stunt was already circulating before he got there. “It was on all the socials and friends were sending me videos,” he said Friday morning near the billboard.

Bruno kept looking up, because the street-level view gives away very little about the setup inside. “It’s on the news. Everyone’s covering it. Is there air conditioning up there? Is there a bathroom? I saw videos where he was walking around in a bathrobe,” he said.

Netflix’s Friday Premiere

Friday also brought the film’s Netflix premiere, giving the billboard a sharper commercial purpose than a simple stunt. The Last House, directed by Louis Leterrier and starring Greta Lee and Wagner Moura, follows a family of four trapped inside their home with no way out, facing a dwindling stockpile of resources and a mysterious threat.

That premise fits the billboard gimmick cleanly: the audience below can see the man, the curtains and the furniture, but not what is happening inside the room. The installation turns the inside/outside divide into the ad itself, and the crowd on Sunset Boulevard is part of the campaign, not just the backdrop.

The man’s run is expected to end Saturday, which makes this a short promotional window rather than a long-term spectacle. For anyone passing Sunset Boulevard and Selma Avenue before then, the unanswered draw is simple: who is inside that room, and what exactly is the setup up there?
