Jackson Jobe is back. The Detroit Tigers activated the right-hander from the 60-day injured list on Saturday, Aug. 8, and he is set to make his season debut against the San Francisco Giants at 7:15 p.m.
The return gives Detroit another important arm at a time when the Tigers are still in the middle of a playoff chase. They entered Saturday two games back in the race for the final wild-card spot, and Jobe’s activation comes during a West Coast trip that has already been productive. Detroit was 5-2 on the trip entering Saturday, including games against the Athletics in West Sacramento.
What Jobe brings back
Jobe missed most of the 2025 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, then sat out all of the 2026 season to this point for the same reason. Before his return to the majors, he completed five rehab starts in the minor leagues and posted a 1.76 ERA across 15 1/3 innings. He allowed 17 hitters while striking out four hitters in that stretch.
That rehab line does not tell the whole story of what Detroit is getting, but it does show that Jobe handled the assignment well enough to earn a return. For a team trying to stay in the mix in the American League, getting a young pitcher back after such a long absence is a meaningful development.
Why it matters for Detroit
The Tigers have leaned on strong pitching for much of their recent push, and Jobe’s return adds another option to a group that has already carried the team through a competitive stretch. The Tigers have the second best record in the American League since June 1, behind only the Boston Red Sox, which explains why this comeback matters beyond one start.
Detroit already has Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize helping anchor the staff, and adding Jobe gives the club more depth as it tries to hold position in the standings. The immediate question is how quickly he can settle back in after such a long road back, but simply getting him onto the mound is a step forward for The Tigers.
