América Femenil made a statement in its return to the Estadio Banorte, rolling past Cruz Azul 10-0 on August 8 in front of 17,572 fans. The result marked a memorable homecoming after the team had gone more than two years away from the stadium because of remodeling work tied to the Copa del Mundo de 2026.
A homecoming with a one-sided scoreline
The last time América Femenil had played at the stadium now called the Estadio Banorte was two years, two months and fifteen days before this match. During the renovation period, the team used the Estadio Ciudad de Los Deportes as its home, but the return to its original setting brought a far different kind of result than a routine welcome-back game.
Against Cruz Azul, América Femenil scored early and kept going. The goals came in the 4', 12', 38', 45'+1', 48', 51', 62', 75', 79' and 81' minutes, turning the match into a runaway win. Nancy Antonio, one of the club’s midfield leaders, had already set the tone before kickoff with the message, “No nos conformamos con estos campeonatos.”
What the result means
The victory came after América Femenil also opened the Apertura 2026 with a three-goal win over Santos Laguna, so the team has started the campaign with momentum on both the scoreboard and the schedule. Returning to the Estadio Banorte and producing a double-digit result only added to the significance of the night.
For Cruz Azul, the game was a difficult follow-up, and the schedule moves quickly from here. After the August 8 match, América Femenil was set to face Puebla, while Cruz Azul was scheduled to play Atlante Femenil.
