Gabriel Lahijani and Karendeep “Karina” Bath filed a Mercedes-AMG class action lawsuit earlier this week in the U.S. District Court of California’s Western division, alleging the raised AMG logo on certain driver’s seats gets hot enough to burn occupants. The suit seeks damages for the two plaintiffs and asks for relief for other owners as well.

Lahijani said he leased a new 2026 Mercedes-AMG E-Class vehicle from an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership in Los Angeles and suffered second-degree burns on May 31 after getting into the car wearing a tank top. A board-certified dermatologist documented first- and second-degree burns and described the injury as “AMG inscribed.”
Bath said she suffered similar burns roughly six weeks later while wearing a sleeveless top. She said her shoulder immediately touched the logo after she entered the driver’s seat in Los Angeles, and the lawsuit says the mark on her skin “darkened and became visible on her skin, consistent with a thermal contact burn.”

The court filing says the raised metallic AMG logo is “reasonably expected to contact an occupant’s upper back, neck, or shoulder,” and it alleges the front seats of certain Mercedes AMG vehicles have a design defect. The plaintiffs want Mercedes-Benz to compensate them for medical expenses, pain, suffering and emotional distress they can prove at trial, and they want the company to pay for other owners to have the logo removed from their cars.
The complaint follows a December agreement in which Mercedes-Benz USA and Daimer AG agreed to pay $149.6 million to settle emission-test allegations involving more than 211,000 diesel passenger cars and vans equipped between 2008 and 2016 with software devices that optimized emission controls during tests but reduced the controls during normal operations. Mercedes-Benz could not be reached immediately for comment. The unanswered question now is which Mercedes AMG models besides the 2026 Mercedes-AMG E-Class are affected by the alleged logo burn hazard.
