This is not a dramatic omission, but it is a revealing one. Colo Colo have left Vozinha out of the squad for the date 18 visit to Unión La Calera, and that tells you everything about where he stands right now: newly arrived, still being integrated, and not yet thrown straight into the fire. In a club where every selection decision gets magnified, that matters.
The timing is important. After the Copa del Mundo 2026, Vozinha took vacations before joining Colo Colo, and only a few days before the Unión La Calera match did he begin training with the team. That is a very short runway for a goalkeeper expected to walk into a new environment and immediately take charge. Colo Colo are clearly managing his adaptation step by step, which is sensible even if it postpones the excitement around his first appearance.
So if Vozinha does not feature in La Calera in the Liga, the natural question is simple: who starts instead? Gabriel Maureira is the obvious alternative, and the encouraging part for Colo Colo is that he has responded when used. That does not make this a crisis. It does, however, underline that the club are not rushing to force a debut just for the sake of the occasion.
August 16 now looks like the target
Unless something changes, the likeliest stage for Vozinha’s official Colo Colo debut is Sunday, August 16, when Colo Colo are expected to host O’Higgins de Rancagua at the Estadio Monumental for date 19 of the Liga de Primera. That gives him a little more time to settle, train, and get used to the demands of his new surroundings before the spotlight properly lands on him.
For now, that is the sensible story. The squad omission for Unión La Calera is not a setback so much as a sign that Colo Colo are not interested in gambling with a fresh signing’s timing. The debut will come soon enough. The club have simply decided that tonight is too early.
