Cleveland weather brought a Flood Advisory to Cuyahoga County until 11:30 a.m. Monday as scattered storms moved in from the west across Northeast Ohio. Trent Magill said the morning storms were expected to push out around midday, but another round could build late Monday afternoon and evening.
Summit and Portage warnings
A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was also issued for Summit, Portage, Medina and Ashtabula counties until 9:45 a.m. The same morning setup left residents in Cuyahoga County and nearby counties dealing with a line of storms that was already producing heavy rain and lightning.
Magill’s forecast pointed to a short break after the first wave, with many areas getting a few hours of dry weather before the atmosphere reloaded. Monday was expected to turn to afternoon storms and possible severe weather, with a high of 84 degrees.
West Region storm rounds
The West Region was expected to see each new round first as storms moved in from Indiana and western Ohio. The greatest threat for damaging storms was expected across the South Region and Akron-Canton Region, but any region could see a strong storm later Monday.
A stalled front near the area set up several waves of energy through Monday, Tuesday and possibly Wednesday, giving the forecast a stop-and-start feel. Those repeated rounds could bring heavy rain, gusty winds and frequent lightning, and the highest rain totals may end up in the West Region if storms keep tracking over the same places.
Tuesday and Wednesday
Tuesday called for waves of storms with a high of 80 degrees, followed by a few showers Wednesday with a high of 79 degrees. Thursday was expected to bring isolated rain with a high of 81 degrees, and Friday carried a chance of storms with a high of 78 degrees.
For residents in Cuyahoga County, the immediate change is the Flood Advisory through 11:30 a.m., then a brief window before more storms return. The next stretch of weather is less about one long system than repeated rounds, and the West Region appears first in line for the rain each time it builds back in.
