Laredo Kid says he and La Hiedra would welcome a title defense on WWE TV after becoming the new AAA Mixed Tag Team Champions at AAA Verano de Escándalo.
It is a notable step for the pair, who beat Lola Vice and Mr. Iguana for the championships just a couple of months after Laredo Kid's AAA World Cruiserweight Title reign came to an end. For him, the latest title win feels like a reward for persistence, and the chance to show the belts on a bigger stage is clearly part of the appeal.
Speaking after the victory, Laredo Kid said he was proud of what the moment meant to him personally, especially given the scale of the platform. He pointed back to his appearance in July against US Champion Trick Williams at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Madison Square Garden as another major point in his recent run.
Laredo Kid: “I deserve it”
Laredo Kid said: “Yeah, yeah. And I feel so good. I [didn’t] believe when they call me for this match. It’s in the biggest event, like Madison Square Garden. And then [against] US Champion Trick Williams — two great things for me. Now I feel that I deserve it, because I work a lot in this business. And now I’m the [AAA Mixed Tag Team] Champion. And I feel very, very good and proud for myself.”
That is a strong reaction from someone who feels his work has finally been recognised. The title change does not just give Laredo Kid and La Hiedra belts to carry, it also gives them a potential platform beyond AAA itself.
Could WWE TV be next?
On that point, Laredo Kid was clear that he wants the champions to be seen on WWE programming. He said he had already asked fans on social media who they would like to see the team defend against, before adding that it could happen on NXT, Raw or SmackDown.
He said: “I hope, I hope. I put some questions on my media socials about, ‘Who do you want to see me and La Hiedra versus who for the belts?’ I think it’s for NXT, Raw, SmackDown, it doesn’t matter. We are ready for everything, you know?”
That is the key point here. The titles were won in AAA, but the idea of defending them on WWE TV would give the championship run a much wider audience and place Laredo Kid and La Hiedra in front of fans who may not regularly follow AAA.
A chance to build on the momentum
Laredo Kid also spoke positively about the possibility of another matchup, saying a future outing would be a good option and a strong contest. It fits with the wider picture around the champions: they are not just holding the belts, they are looking for the kind of platform that can make the reign matter.
For now, the important thing is that the door appears open. Laredo Kid and La Hiedra have the AAA Mixed Tag Team Championships, and the next question is whether WWE TV will be the place where their first defence takes shape.
