WSBT weather for Southeast Michigan turns stormier this afternoon and evening, when thunderstorms are expected to return and a few storms could become strong to severe. Ashlee Baracy said the strongest storm potential is centered between I-94 and the Ohio border.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed Southeast Michigan under a Marginal Risk, Level 1 of 5, for severe weather today. Baracy said conditions may be more favorable for storm development this morning and again between 3 to 8PM, which is the main window for stronger storms.

Most storms are expected to remain non-severe, even with the Marginal Risk in place. Still, an isolated stronger storm could bring damaging wind gusts, large hail, heavy rainfall and frequent lightning. That leaves the afternoon and evening as the most important stretch for People in Southeast Michigan watching the sky and planning around outdoor travel.

The setup does not end after today. A marginal risk for severe thunderstorms is expected Wednesday afternoon in the northern communities, isolated chances linger on Thursday, and drier weather develops by Friday and Friday night. Afternoon highs will generally stay in the 80s through the remainder of the workweek.
Another round of unsettled weather is forecast for the weekend, with showers and thunderstorms and periods of heavy rainfall. The weekend system could matter most where repeated downpours build up, since forecast guidance points to a renewed chance for rain and storms rather than a brief, isolated round.
