Notts County have entered advanced talks with Chelsea over a potential loan deal for Ishe Samuels-Smith, according to Pete O’Rourke. The move comes after the Magpies missed out on Harry Boyes and have now shifted their attention to the Chelsea defender as they look to strengthen on the left side.
The 20-year-old moved into Chelsea's setup in 2023 and spent last season on loan at Swansea City. That spell ended early in April because of a muscle injury, and he returned to Stamford Bridge after making eight appearances for the Jacks.
Why Notts County want the move
Left-sided defender recruitment has become a priority for Notts County, especially with uncertainty around Jodi Jones' future at Meadow Lane. At the moment, the club are said to rely on Jodi Jones in that role, while Jack Evans could also cover there if needed.
That makes Samuels-Smith an obvious target for a team trying to add more balance and depth before the new campaign. A loan deal would give Notts County another option in a position where they do not appear to have many natural alternatives, while also giving Chelsea a chance for the defender to pick up more senior minutes.
