Lucas Gourna-Douath is undergoing a medical at Hull City ahead of a proposed transfer from Red Bull Salzburg, with the midfielder expected to sign a five-year contract if the move is completed. The deal is understood to be worth €4million, or £3.4m.
The 23-year-old would arrive at a Hull side that earned promotion to the Premier League in May as Championship play-off winners. Hull City have already been active in the market this summer and have signed seven players, so Gourna-Douath would add to a squad that is being reshaped quickly after going up.
What Gourna-Douath would bring
Gourna-Douath came through the academy at Saint-Etienne before moving to Red Bull Salzburg in 2022 as an 18-year-old. He signed a five-year contract there and was used frequently as a defensive midfielder in his first two seasons.
That spell also included team success, with Red Bull Salzburg winning their 17th Austrian Bundesliga title in the 2022-23 season. More recently, Gourna-Douath spent time out on loan in France and Italy, which is part of the background behind this next step in his career.
Recent loan spells
In February 2025, he joined Roma on loan with an option to make the move permanent, but that option was not exercised. In the second half of last season, he was then loaned to Le Havre and made 15 Ligue 1 appearances.
For Hull City, the attraction is straightforward: a 23-year-old midfielder with experience in different leagues, a clear defensive profile and a contract situation at Salzburg that has made a permanent move possible. If the medical is passed, Hull will add another piece to a transfer window that already looks busy.
