Everton forward Martin Sherif has been charged by the Football Association with allegedly breaching betting rules, adding a disciplinary issue to a young career that has included loan spells with Rotherham United and Port Vale.
The FA said Sherif, who is 20 years old and has not made a senior first-team appearance for Everton, is alleged to have breached FA Rule E1.2 in relation to 61 bets placed on football matches between 20 November 2024 and 12 February 2026. He has until Monday 17 August to provide a response.
What the charge means
The case places Sherif in the middle of a formal FA process over alleged betting rule breaches. The charge does not settle the matter, but it does mean the player now has to answer the allegation within the FA's stated timeframe.
Sherif has been part of Everton's youth set-up since 2019 and was given a loan move to Rotherham United last summer. He was later recalled in December after suffering a series of injuries. In early 2025, he began training with the Everton first team before joining Port Vale on loan in February for the remainder of the campaign.
For Everton, the situation is notable because Sherif has been viewed as a developing player rather than an established senior contributor. The case now shifts attention away from his loan progress and toward the disciplinary response that will follow.
