Hill also said he took up jiu jitsu in 2018, after saying he was wary of it at first because it was something his high school bullies practiced. He joked that his body “is begging” him not to love jiu jitsu as much as he does because of how hard he trains. He added that his wife reminds him he is not going to become a professional fighter, which keeps the boast in the realm of talk rather than a promise of a new career.

Therapists and critics who reviewed the texts pushed back on that framing, and Hill and his team never publicly responded to the messages or disputed that he sent them.
