Peebles Rovers F.C. has been wound up after 133 years, bringing senior football in Peebles to an end. The decision was taken at a Special General Meeting earlier this week, when members unanimously agreed to close the club as a senior side.
The move comes after a long battle for survival over the last two years or so. In April, Peebles Rovers tendered their resignation from the East of Scotland Football League, with the club later saying the issues facing it could not be solved in time to keep senior football going.
Why the club could not continue
The central problem was the ground. According to the club's statement, the site failed to meet league requirements, and attempts to fix the issue or find a suitable move elsewhere were unsuccessful. That left Peebles Rovers with no viable route to remain in the competition for the 2025/26 season.
For a club founded in 1888, that is a stark ending. The decision means the town loses its senior team, even if discussions are still said to be taking place that could allow the Peebles Rovers name to survive in some future form.
