Darren Till is leaving the door open again. The 33-year-old former UFC title challenger says he is still pondering whether to return to MMA, and if the promotion ever gives him another chance, he already has the opponent in mind: Paddy Pimblett at Anfield.
That is not a small idea, and not just because it would be a Liverpool-on-Liverpool fight with huge local appeal. It is also the kind of matchup that immediately raises the sport’s practical questions. Till last fought in MMA in December 2022, when he lost to Dricus Du Plessis by third-round submission, and he has since moved into boxing bouts after taking a voluntary release from the UFC to recover from injuries. Pimblett, meanwhile, is a top-ranked lightweight, which makes the fight intriguing on paper and difficult in reality.
Why Till is talking about a return
Till has been critical of the UFC in recent months, but his latest comments suggest the frustration has not erased the idea of one more run. On Fight Your Corner, he said he is still thinking about going back to MMA and made clear that the motivation is still there. “I’m 33 years young. I haven’t taken a lot of punishment in terms of head trauma. I could definitely do it,” he said, adding that he is making enough money now to step away for a while if needed and then “make one more crack at it.”
There is a reason that matters. Till is not speaking like a fighter who is trying to force his way back tomorrow. He sounds like someone weighing timing, health and whether the return would be worth it. That is a more realistic kind of comeback talk than nostalgia for its own sake.
Why Pimblett is the name he wants
The opponent tells us plenty about the idea. Till said: “Yeah, me vs Paddy at Anfield, it’s always been spoken about and Paddy is on such a trajectory now, imagine I slip back in and say, ‘Come on Paddy, let’s do this together’.”
It is an understandable callout. Pimblett has become one of the biggest names in the UFC’s lightweight picture, and a matchup with Till would instantly carry local storyline value. But the weight classes also make it complicated. Till fought at middleweight in his last UFC appearance, while Pimblett is a lightweight, so even before any matchmaking politics enter the picture, the fight would require major compromise.
That tension is what makes the idea interesting. Till is not simply naming a famous opponent. He is naming one that would give a return real event-level appeal if it could be made.
What happens next
For now, the clearest immediate fact is that Till already has another fight on the calendar. He is scheduled to face Yoel Romero under the BKFC banner at AO Arena on September 26. So any UFC comeback remains a question, not a plan.
Still, his comments matter because they show that the UFC chapter may not be finished. Till left with a voluntary release, has spent time outside the promotion, and now sounds open to one last run if the opportunity and the opponent line up. Whether the UFC would want to revisit him is another matter entirely. But if Till is serious, he has at least done the first part: he has picked the fight that would make everyone pay attention.
