Tanzid Hasan moved to 98 not out as Bangladesh reached 225-2 in their first innings against Australia on day two of the first men's Test. He was two runs short of a maiden Test century when the 62nd over ended, with Shanto 47 not out at the other end.

Bangladesh advanced from 196-2 in the 54th over to 201-2 in the 55th, then kept pushing through 205-2, 207-2, 214-2, 216-2 and 219-2 before reaching 222-2 and then 225-2. Tanzid was on 84 at the 54th over, 88 at the 55th, 89 at the 56th, 90 at the 57th, 93 at the 58th, 94 at the 59th and 61st, and 98 at the close of the 62nd over.
Starc put Tanzid in front with a back cut in the 55th over, and Bangladesh moved ahead with eight first innings wickets remaining. Lyon began his first spell of the afternoon in the 60th over, Cummins beat Tanzid for pace and struck him in the midriff in the 61st, and Lyon then beat his outside edge with extra bounce in the 62nd. Tanzid also lofted a drive that landed just short of the sweeper place out at deep long off.
Hazlewood bowled from around the wicket in the 54th over, while Labuschagne twice removed a huge clod of turf from the outfield with a sliding stop. Australia in the field still had work to do, but the visitors kept the scoreboard moving and held a strong first-innings position.
Whether Tanzid Hasan finished the job and reached his hundred is the live question left by the update, and the next scoreline will show how much longer Australia can keep that chase from breaking open.
