The FBI is offering up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest of Darren Anthony Robinson, who was charged in a $100 million investment fraud and money laundering scheme. Robinson has been a fugitive since November 2023, when he cut his GPS tether and fled the country.
The case now turns on whether tips from the public can help narrow where he is. The FBI also says Robinson has been added to the FBI's Most Wanted Fraudster list.
Eastern District of Michigan in Detroit
A federal arrest warrant was issued in January 2024 out of the Eastern District of Michigan in Detroit after Robinson was charged with 11 counts of wire fraud and one count of money laundering. The FBI says he sought investor funds from at least 2015 until 2023 and used QYU Holdings to raise an estimated $100 million from investors around the world.
Robinson allegedly told investors the money was for trading on a foreign currency exchange market. Investigators say he instead used the funds to distribute money to other investors, pay QYU-related business expenses, and support himself.
Jennifer Runyan on victims
At a Thursday press conference, FBI Special Agent in Charge Jennifer Runyan said, “Behind those numbers, those very, very large numbers, are real people, retirees, moms and dads, trying to pay for college,” and added, “I want those victims to know today that the FBI remains committed to pursuing justice on their behalf.”
Robert Kuszynski, IRS Acting Agent in Charge, said, “Financial fraud of this magnitude has ruined countless lives and more than warrants Mr. Robinson's inclusion on this list.” The FBI said hundreds of people had been impacted by the scheme and is asking anyone else who believes they were victimized to come forward.
Where Robinson is now
Robinson allegedly traveled extensively and has been known to spend time in South Florida, suburban Atlanta, and southern California. He has also lived in Panama and the United Arab Emirates. The public tip line is now part of the search, and the immediate question is whether any of those locations or recent contacts can lead authorities to him.
