Isaiah Sategna III returned to OU for his final season of eligibility after weighing the NFL and college football, and he said loyalty was part of what pushed him back. As the Sooners opened training camp, he entered as the SEC’s leading returning receiver and a more vocal presence in the room.

Sategna said the decision took real reflection after the 2025 season ended. “A lot went into that decision,” he said, before adding, “First, I had to pray to God and ask what He wanted out of me. He kept telling me loyalty and to stay where I'm at. I have more to give and I felt like OU was the right place to be.”
His production last season gave the choice weight. He started all 13 games, handled kickoffs and punts as the Sooners’ primary returner, and finished with team highs of 67 receptions, 965 yards and eight touchdown receptions. He also earned a preseason second-team spot from the conference.
Emmett Jones and the receivers room
The return matters inside a receivers group that has newcomers around him. Emmett Jones said Sategna had been “a huge influence” and described him as a player who is reminding teammates to meet him in the training room and at the jug machines, while also helping with route-running and everyday approaches.
That role fits a player who said leadership does not come naturally to him. “Naturally, I'm a leader that likes to go out there and play and let everybody see what I can do,” he said. “Now, I'm more of a vocal leader this year.” He added, “There have been some growing pains with that but I feel like I've been a lot better with that this year.”
Brent Venables in March
Brent Venables said in March that Sategna was his favorite player on the Sooners’ roster during their College Football Playoff run, and John Mateer said during training camp that the receiver had “come up really well as a leader.” Mateer added, “Isaiah Sategna is really picking up the whole room.”
For Oklahoma, the practical next step is clear: Sategna has to carry the top returning production and the vocal edge that coaches and teammates are asking for while the receivers settle in around him. His answer to the NFL question was a return to OU, and the room now has to live with the standard that came with it.
