’s Championship watchlist has seven names on it this season, but Jarrod Bowen stands out immediately. The West Ham captain returns to the second tier with a record that makes the case for him as the division’s most proven attacking threat.
Bowen has 65 goals and 49 assists in 231 top-flight games, with 114 goal involvements overall. Those numbers underline why he is expected to be central to West Ham’s push to get back to the top flight after relegation.
Why Bowen sets the standard
This is not a player being judged on promise. Bowen already has the kind of output that changes a team’s ceiling, and his record includes 38 Premier League goals and 25 assists, plus the sort of reliability managers want when a season becomes about pressure and consistency.
He last played outside the top tier in 2019-20, when he was at Hull City, and since then he has established himself as a proven top-flight attacker. That is why his name heads a list that is meant to identify the players who could shape the Championship race.
The rest of the list has clear intrigue
There is plenty else to follow. Zan Vipotnik is on the radar after scoring 23 Championship goals for Swansea last season, even though Swansea finished 11th and nine points off the playoffs. Ethan Galbraith is another player to watch after completing 49.6 passes per 90 minutes and making 201 possession regains for Swansea before his move this summer for £10m.
Lorent Tolaj also fits the profile of a player who can matter immediately. He scored 19 goals for Aldershot in the National League in 2023-24, then 14 for Port Vale in League Two in 2024-25, before adding 18 across League One last season, including one for Port Vale and 17 for Plymouth. Bristol City paid £4m for him this summer.
The list is completed by Léo Scienza, Othmane Maamma and Mason Melia, which tells you the range of profiles being monitored. But if the question is who carries the most obvious weight, Bowen is the answer.
His figures are bigger, his experience is greater and the expectation around him is higher. In a league where form can shift quickly, that combination makes him the most significant name on the list.
