Chicago O'Hare International Airport had the most cancellations among airports for the third day in a row, with more than 1,500 delays reported. FAA ground stop at Chicago O'Hare
The FAA issued the ground stop on Tuesday morning. Chicago Midway Airport also faced a ground stop on all flights that day, showing how widely the severe weather spread across Chicago operations.
For passengers, the most immediate issue was timing. United Airlines said a new flight must be booked by August 14, while American Airlines updated its travel alerts page with a rebooking offer for ORD flights on August 11. American Airlines also told a customer on social media, "We understand your frustration. Multiple delays for different operational issues can make it difficult to feel confident about your travel plans. The uneven airline totals show how disruption can pile up even when cancellations stay limited in one place. United Airlines had 19 cancellations and 518 delays for flights out of Chicago on Tuesday, and 1,101 delays in total. SkyWest, Republic, and Envoy Air had the most cancellations for Chicago O'Hare flights, with American Airlines next in line.
